Threads, Meta’s new social media platform, has attracted 175 million users after a year of launch. Currently, this application continues to have a steady growth.

More than a year ago, Threads was just a flash of thought in Mark Zuckerberg’s eyes. Now, the platform has attracted a large number of monthly active users and is a major competitor to Elon Musk’s social network X.
The announcement about the number of Threads users was made by Meta on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the launch of this social network. At the time of its first appearance on July 5, 2023, Meta’s latest “brainchild” quickly created a trend and attracted 100 million users after only 3 months of release.
Currently, Threads is still growing at a steady pace although not as fast as its launch a year ago. Meanwhile, Elon Musk has not shared the same data about X since he took over this social network.
Like many other social networks, users on Threads can quickly attract a large number of followers by posting trending or controversial articles. However, unlike Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, Meta has not yet shared the number of daily users of Threads.
This omission shows that Meta’s latest social network is still having trouble keeping users active on a regular basis.
In recent months, some Meta employees have said that much of Threads’ growth has come from Instagram, as both apps share the same account system. This may not change in the near future.
According to The Verge, 175 million monthly users for the one-year-old app is not admirable. However, when considering Meta’s projects in recent years, Threads seems to have brought quite positive initial results.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, believes that Threads has a chance to become the company’s next app to reach one billion users. To maintain the growth story, Meta focuses on markets that it thinks have the potential to pull users away from social network X, such as Japan.
“It would be great if Threads really grew, but I’m more interested in whether the app will become culturally relevant and attract hundreds of millions of users,” said Adam Mosseri, the head of the Instagram app when Threads launched.
