China launches super SIM with integrated RISC-V CPU: 10 times the speed and capacity of traditional SIMs

However, this super SIM will not be used on smartphones.

China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile service provider, has just introduced the CC2560A “super SIM” – the world’s first RISC-V core integrated product. This is a product for the IoT field, superior to traditional SIM cards in all aspects: larger storage capacity, better security algorithm and new features such as NFC support.

The RISC-V chip of the super SIM CC2560A uses a 32-bit RISC-V security core, with a CPU clock of 120MHz. The transmission speed of this chip is 10 times higher than that of the current super SIM, the computing power is doubled, and the collection efficiencythe average budget increased by more than 2 times.

The CC2560A’s Flash capacity reaches 2.5MB, 10 times the capacity of the current main SIM chip and 2 times that of the current super SIM. This chip can pre-install more than 50 applications.

Super SIM CC2560A also has the ability to expand and integrate various interfaces such as SWP, QSPI, SPI, I2C and UART. Through the SPI/QSPI interface, this chip can expand the external Flash capacity, suitable for many scenarios in the IoT field. With diverse interfaces, CC2560A can integrate with baseband chips, storage chips, Bluetooth chips and other chips such as biometric identification and satellite positioning.

In terms of security, CC2560A super SIM is designed according to national standards and EAL5+ standards, integrating more than 100 security designs such as encryption and auditing bus, DPA anti-attack technology, hiding sensitive signals. This chip supports encryption storage, international and national algorithms, and PUF physical copy resistance.

According to China Mobile, the applications of the CC2560A super SIM include electronic student IDs, digital car keys, transit tickets, and scenarios other access controls.

The integration of the RISC-V core on the SIM card is a unique innovation. However, future innovations on the chip may be limited as U.S. lawmakers are actively blocking China’s access to theRISC-V structure.
