After a month of limited testing with paid users, the ChatGPT app for macOS has been officially released by OpenAI. Users can download the app completely free, while ChatGPT Plus users can log in to access the full account.
The ChatGPT app for macOS is designed to “seamlessly integrate into every task a user performs on a computer”, OpenAI said. The app is built specifically for macOS with keyboard shortcuts (CMD + Space) to launch from anywhere.
Users can easily interact with the chatbot, attaching files, photos, and screenshots to messages. ChatGPT can use these documents to process user requests. The app also supports the Voice Mode feature for voice interaction. OpenAI says a new version of Voice Mode with GPT-4o capabilities will be available on Macs in the next few weeks.
“For both free and paid users, we are also launching the newly designed macOS desktop ChatGPT app to seamlessly integrate into every task you’re doing on your computer. With just a simple shortcut (Option + Space), you can ask ChatGPT instantly. You can also take and discuss screenshots right away in the app,” OpenAI added.
“You can now have a voice chat with ChatGPT directly from your computer. Get started with Voice Mode already available in ChatGPT, with GPT-4o’s new audio and video capabilities coming out in the future. Whether you want to come up with a new idea for your company, prepare for an interview, or have a topic you want to discuss, Tap the headset icon in the bottom right corner of the desktop app to start a conversation Bvoice”.
