The financial accounts of Android users in the United States are at risk with the return of banking trojans.
A Trojan that attacks bank accounts through users’ mobile devices called Medusa is back after a year nare on the researchers’ radar. According to BleepingComputer, new Trojan attack campaigns have been detected in the US, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Turkey. The attack only started in May and has the potential to cause serious harm because the malware can be real Currently, unapproved transactions from infected phones.
Medusa can also track the keys you type, control the screen, and manipulate text messages. Medusa will also take screenshots and Pick up the overlays all over the screen to trick potential victims. As BleepingComputer puts it, “Overall, the Medusa mobile banking trojan appears to be expanding its targeting scope and operating more and more silently, laying the groundwork for larger-scale deployments and higher victim counts.” The current attack campaigns are targeting the best Android phone users in the aforementioned countries.
To make matters worse, the new version of Medusa is lighter, more compact, and requires fewer permissions to carry out attacks. According to online fraud management company Cleafy, the Medusa writers removed 17 commands from the previous version of the malware and added 5 lApplications used to drop malware on Android phones include the fake Chrome browser, 5G connectivity app and streaming app called 4K Sports. If you have any of these apps on your phone, delete them immediately.
There are currently no drip apps used to distribute malware detected in the Google Play Store. According to the arguments of experts, Medusa is allowed to drain the financial accounts of Android users because Android devices allow users to Download the app. But more worryingly, is that Cleafy has noticed that more and more cybercriminals are participating in malware activities in the form of epidemics.(MaaS) on this Android device, which allows for the detection and creation of newer, harder-to-detect ways to distribute malware. MaaS operations are activities in which hackers pay a fee to use trojans.
When you think about the ways that Medusa can take a screenshot of your phone, read your keystrokes, or use theoverlays on the screen to trick you into entering a password that doesn’t really belong to it, this is a serious threat to security and needs to be monitored continuously. Overlays can also be Your phone’s screen to black makes you think your phone is off while nefarious actions are takes place in the background.
The first thing you can do to protect yourself is to stop downloading apps. While Google may not always be able to protect the Play Store from malware, the chances of you becoming a victim of theof trojans like Medusa will increase when you download the app on your Android device.
